We’re hiring! Staff writer needed for NewStatesman.com

 New Statesman is looking for a generalist staff writer for its website.

By New Statesman

The New Statesman is looking for a staff writer for the website with a minimum of three years’ experience writing for a national magazine or newspaper website.

We are looking for a talented all-rounder – not a politics specialist – with a keen news sense and the ability to write excellent copy to tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have the ability to write a mix of breaking news, comment and feature articles. They will be skilled at generating ideas, will have experience of operating at the fast pace required in a digital newsroom, and will have an eye for spotting social media trends.

This is an exciting time of growth for the New Statesman and we are looking for someone to join our dynamic team at Britain’s leading politics and culture magazine.

The role will involve:

Writing and researching daily stories for the New Statesman’s website.

Finding original angles for stories to give them standout.

Fact-checking your work to a high standard.

Give a gift subscription to the New Statesman this Christmas from just £49

Promoting those stories on social media and across other platforms.

Devising ideas for multimedia content including podcasts and video.

Devising ideas for web extras such as polls, quizzes and other interactive content.

Working flexible hours depending on the news cycle.

 

The successful applicant should have:

The ability to write high quality copy to tight deadlines.

A knowledge of media law.

A good grasp of web analytics and SEO.

In-depth understanding of social media and content promotion.

Experience of using CMS.
