Politics just got uncomfortably cosier. Sky News has just reported an exclusive that David Ross, the multimillionaire co-founder of the Carphone Warehouse and big Tory donor, is in the running to become the next chair of Ofsted, the education watchdog. Sky describes Ross as a “leading candidate” to take over the role from Sally Morgan, who Education Secretary Michael Gove controversially decided in January should stand down.

Sky reports that “the precise sums given by Mr Ross [to the Tories] are unclear but they are understood to amount to several hundred thousand pounds over the last decade.”

The Mail in a report in January this year described Ross as a member of an “elite group of donors”, the “Leader’s Group”, which has direct access to the PM via a dining club. The article states that Ross “has donated more than £220,000” to the party.

If this goes ahead, this mole would like to copyright to the headline: “It takes two (hundred thousand) to quango”. Thank you.
