The pandemic has highlighted stark social inequalities in the UK and these should be addressed as part of the recovery strategy. But to deliver such strategies, we will need skilled, resilient and resourceful local communities with high levels of educational attainment, self-reliance and entrepreneurialism.
On 24 September, the New Statesman virtually convened its annual conference during Labour week, with a series of panel events, interviews and guest speeches from some of the Labour party’s most senior members, as well as business leaders and experts. An online panel discussion and live Q&A, sponsored by Sellafield, explored these key issues. The panel, chaired by former New Statesman deputy editor Jon Bernstein, brought together Seema Malhotra MP, Warrington Borough Council CEO Steven Broomhead, Bruntwood director of strategy Jessica Bowles and Sellafield head of corporate affairs Jamie Reed to discuss the role of industry in achieving a sustainable recovery.
