Ministers to lay out two-week quarantine rules for UK visitors this week, with lorry drivers exempt

By Samuel Horti

Freight drivers and some scientists will be among the few groups exempt from 14-day quarantine rules for visitors to the UK, which ministers are set to reveal this week.

Plans to exempt visitors from France have been dropped, according to reports. Those arriving from the common travel area, which covers Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, will not have to quarantine, but arrivals from other countries will.

The exemptions include freight drivers, who will have to deliver their goods before leaving immediately, as well as some doctors, scientists and business people, the Telegraph reports.

The paper also reports that Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove, who is leading the development of the plans, is keen for onsite testing in airports, which might allow some others to avoid quarantine.
