TfL will run out of cash before end of month without government grant

By Samuel Horti

Transport for London (TfL) will run out of cash before the month is up unless the government steps in, London mayor Sadiq Khan has said.

TfL officials are talking to ministers about a possible grant, but if negotiations broke down the organisaiton would not be able to pay some staff and may have to cut services, Khan told the BBC. It is currently running on cash reserves, he said.

TfL has seen a massive reduction in passenger numbers during the coronavirus lockdown, with the number of tube travellers down 95 per cent.
