A look into the heart-warmingly hilarious “adopted by a celebrity” Wattpad genre

“That’s when I remembered we are One Direction and Bruno Mars.”

By Amelia Tait

Hi, my name is Amelia and I write overly long and complicated pieces about Stuff On The Internet. What does this meme mean? This viral tweet was so, so much deeper than you realised, man. Why are these puppets having sex on Instagram? That sort of stuff.

Anyway, I recently discovered a genre on the user-generated story site Wattpad (essentially, it’s the home of fanfic). In these stories, children write about being adopted by their favourite celebrities and YouTubers. There is literally nothing to dissect or analyse about this phenomenon, which is just kids practising their writing and being exceptionally cute and unintentionally hilarious – on the web! So, without further words and stuff, here is a round-up of the most defining extracts from the genre.
