Wakefield and Tiverton & Honiton by-election results

Full coverage as the Conservatives lose two by-elections in one night.

By Ben Walker

Two key by-elections in different corners of the country have been fought with great intensity by the opposition parties. Wakefield, and Tiverton and Honiton, both Conservative-held, have come under serious threat from Labour and the Liberal Democrats respectively. Defeat for the Tories would be laid firmly at the door of Boris Johnson’s government, an administration trailing in the polls on perceived competence, credibility and capacity to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

Welcome to the New Statesman’s liveblog of results night, helmed by Ben Walker of Britain Elects. Polls close at 10pm, and we expect seats declarations in the early hours of Friday morning.
