New Statesman appoints Rachel Cunliffe as Deputy Online Editor

City AM Comment and Features Editor joins to help lead our digital expansion.

By New Statesman

The New Statesman is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Cunliffe as Deputy Online Editor to help lead our ongoing digital expansion.

Cunliffe will join from City AM, where she has served as Comment and Features Editor since May 2017, and was previously Deputy Editor of Reaction and Deputy Editor of CapX. She is also a regular newspaper columnist and broadcaster and graduated from Cambridge University with a master’s in Classics.

Cunliffe’s arrival is part of our increased investment in digital media and follows the recent appointment of Chris Stone, who joined as Executive Producer, Audio and Video, and was previously head of video at the Evening Standard. Cunliffe will begin work at the New Statesman in January 2021.

Jason Cowley, Editor-in-Chief, said: “I’m delighted Rachel is joining the New Statesman during this exciting period of expansion for the magazine.

“She is a first-rate journalist and an excellent writer, and she joins a thriving digital team.”

Cunliffe said: “I’m very excited to be joining the New Statesman – it’s a great publication with a strong and respected heritage in political comment and analysis that is also leading the way in digital innovation.

“I have had three amazing years at City AM – I know the paper is going from strength to strength even in the age of lockdown. Now it’s time for a new challenge. In an age when incisive commentary, analysis and scrutiny have never been more vital, I am hugely looking forward to joining the NS team.”
