BBC breaks BBC Victoria Derbyshire story with BBC reporter quoting BBC media editor

So BBC.

By Media Mole

The BBC has compounded its very BBC decision to cancel the investigative and popular Victoria Derbyshire Show with a bizarre report on its own story.

Its news story on the announcement embedded a tweet of the news by the broadcaster’s media editor, Amol Rajan, and reported: “The BBC’s award-winning Victoria Derbyshire Show is coming off air, the broadcaster’s media editor has learned.”

The piece goes on to quote Rajan repeatedly as if he’s an interviewee rather than, y’know, the guy in charge of reporting these stories for the BBC.

There is a little bit of analysis under his byline at the end of the piece though, ironically informing readers that BBC News is looking to restructure “so that digital journalism is prioritised”.

The BBC, apparently, declined to comment.

NOTE: The story has since been updated to make it read mildly less ridiculously.
