More than 30 Labour MPs from the 2015 intake have come together to record a video in tribute to Jo Cox, their colleague who was killed last week.
Angela Rayner, the MP for Ashton-under-Lyme, Ruth Smeeth, the MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, Anna Turley, the MP for Redcar, Conor McGinn, the MP for St Helens Morth and Rachael Maskell, the MP for York Central are among the MPs who contribute to the video, organised by Wes Streeting, the MP for Ilford North.
Vicky Foxcroft, the MP for Lewisham Deptford says that “you didn’t have to know her to admire what she stood for”, while Dawn Butler, the MP for Brent Central, says that the killing should make people “reflect” on the politics that we seek. Margaret Greenwood, the MP for Wirral South, and Karin Smyth, the MP for Bristol South say that everyone can do something to carry on “Jo’s legacy”. Smeeth, who before politics worked in the anti-fascist charity Hope not Hate, says that politicians must ensure that the “politics of hate” are defeated.
A Go Fund Me page set up by Cox’s friends and family has raised over £1m in just four days.
