Scotland for IT

Scotland continues to use technology to improve public services

By Mike Butcher

The Scottish Executive says it plans to continue using technology to ‘improve public services’. That’s just as well then. It’s Efficient Government Initiative is more or less on track, but clinicians could make more use of existing IT; more organisations could make savings by using the eProcurement Scotland system and it all needs more clarity to work out if they are actually saving money. Part of the problem is that public services in Scotland are delivered in a “crowded landscape” of different organisations. Perhaps IT could help?
