India’s endless summer

While air-conditioning units are switched on across a hot and bothered UK, those enduring India’s heatwave have been driven to more extreme measures. These residents of Sanjay Colony, New Delhi, scrambled to collect water from a state-supplied tanker amid temperatures that have rarely dropped below 40°C in the past three weeks. Water shortages and power cuts have led to angry demonstrations around the country. This year’s monsoon, already late, is expected to provide less rainfall than usual.
