Words in Pictures: Lydia Davis

A reading by the American mistress of the really short story.

By Staff Blogger

The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis were reviewed by Alyssa McDonald in this week’s magazine. McDonald admires Davis for her humour and emotional honesty, which make the reader feel invested in the shortest of stories.

In this video clip, Davis reads from “The Child” and “The Grandmother”, exhibiting her ability, as McDonald pointed out, to offer “wry glimpses into the restless and uncertain thoughts of nameless characters in unnamed places”.
