The Edinburgh Comedy Awards (once the Perriers, then the If.Comedy Awards, now — sponsor-less — the Eddies) were announced on Saturday, and a few of our hot tips triumphed. Tim Key won the main prize for The Slutcracker, his daftly wonderful show of surrealist poetry and meandering short films. Jonny Sweet won Best Newcomer and both Key and Sweet appeared in Tom Basden’s hilarious show about the stilted birth of a hopeless political party, Party, that scooped a Fringe First. But the wind beneath their wings, as it were, was Simon Pearce of the Invisible Dot — a tiny, nascent comedy operation based in Camden which produced Party and The Slutcracker. Watch that space for the comedy heroes of the future . . .
