Demonstrators smash windows and break into Millbank Tower

Crowd chanting "Tory scum!" watch as demonstrators break into building.

Demonstrators have smashed windows at the office building Millbank Tower in central London.

Amid increasingly violent scenes, a number of protestors repeatedly kicked and broke in the ground floor windows of Millbank Tower. The building contains within its 30 floors the heaquarters of the Conservative Party.

A onlooking crowd chanting “Tory scum!” and “No ifs, no buts — no education cuts” cheered the demonstrators. Some reports suggest around a dozen people have managed to break into the building whilst others suggest a fire was lit outside Millbank Tower, near to where protesters were due to gather for a rally.

Earlier today, Nick Clegg, Lib Dem leader and Deputy Prime Minister, came under strong criticism in the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions.

You can watch a video, via Sky News, of protestors smashing the ground floor windows.

UPDATE: There are now reports of some demonstrators reaching the top of Millbank Tower, fire extinguishers being thrown off its roof and police surrounding the headquarters of the Lib Dems on Cowley Street…
