The BBC and The Telegraph have announced that Pete Postlethwaite, the British star of The Usual Suspects and Brassed Off, died in hospital yesterday after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Postlethwaite, who was known mainly for his work in films, began life as a stage actor and played King Lear at the Old Vic in early 2009. He was nominated for an Oscar for In The Name of the Father in 1994 and awarded an OBE in 2004.
