A libertarian himself, Julian Assange appears to have taken Milton Friedman’s adage that “there is no such thing as a free lunch” to heart. WikiLeaks is currently auctioning off lunch with its founder and Slavoj Žižek on eBay to raise funds for the organisation. With four days remaining, bidding for the eight places at “one of London’s finest restaurants” ranges from £1,800 to £4,100.
Following the lunch, Assange, who appeared at a New Statesman debate earlier this year on whistleblowing, will discuss the impact of WikiLeaks with Žižek at a Frontline Club event at The Troxy in East London.
Žižek, a frequent contributor to the NS, has described Assange as “a real-life counterpart to the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight“.
