2008 is like another lifetime. Back then, David Cameron was asked by the GQ editor, Dylan Jones, for his favourite political joke. Cameron replied: “Nick Clegg, at the moment.”
No more. Forget yesterday’s nuptials; approaching the anniversary of the Downing Street Garden romance, another bank holiday surely beckons.
During the past 11 months we have learned much about their burgeoning relationship. For example, thanks to our recent guest editor Jemima Khan we know that the pair play tennis (Cameron won there) and that Nick calls David “Dave”.
And now, courtesy of the Times‘s resident lip reader (£), we now know what Dave said to Nick during the royal wedding. Sizing each other up in their finest Moss Bros, Cameron confided in Clegg:
I had to have my trousers let out.
The ersatz spat over the AV referendum well and truly over, the intimacy of their relationship has returned.
