Today it emerged that the Sun illegally gained access to the medical records of Gordon Brown. They will probably issue a contrite apology in the near future. Before they do that, however, here’s how the Sun bragged about its coverage of Gordon Brown’s son’s illness in 2006:
We set the news agenda on November 30, breaking the sad news that Gordon Brown’s baby boy Fraser has Cystic Fibrosis.
As well as telling the devastating news, the story was used to increase national understanding of the condition, in partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Well, thank goodness the Sun used the story to “to increase national understanding of the condition”. Otherwise it would be a bit reprehensible.
