LISTEN: David Cameron doesn’t know how much national debt has increased

"I haven't got the figure off the top of my head."

During an interview with Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2, David Cameron was asked how far the national debt has risen. He was accused of failing to eliminate the deficit, and pushing up the national debt.

But rather embarrassingly for the PM, who incessantly criticises Ed Miliband for forgetting to mention the economy, he didn’t know:

“I haven’t got the figure off the top of my head.”

The answer: over £100bn.

Cameron seems to be rather forgetful of late. Recently, he couldn’t tell us how much the Living Wage is, giving a very similar excuse: “I don’t have the figures in my head.”
