John Bercow has been reelected Speaker of the House of Commons.
In the first vote of the new parliament, usually a formality, the Speaker retained his seat.
Bercow has faced more controversy than past Speakers, in that the Tories attempted a plot to unseat him in the last day of parliament before it dissolved for the election, and so his reelection was not as sure a thing as such votes have been in the past.
