The World Health Organisation has officially approved an independent evaluation of its response to the coronavirus pandemic, as proposed by the European Union.
The EU resolution did not receive a single objection from the WHO’s 194 member states at a meeting today. The evaluation will begin as soon as possible.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said the organisation wants “more than anyone” to be held accountable.
Last night, US President Donald Trump threatened to permanently pull all funding to the organisation over its lack of independence from China. He gave the WHO a 30-day deadline to make major reforms.
