Burundi expels all WHO representatives for interfering with coronavirus response

By Samuel Horti

Burundi has expelled all the World Health Organization’s representatives in the country for “unacceptable interference” in its coronavirus response ahead of a presidential election next week.

The foreign ministry did not give a reason for expelling the four representatives, but an anonymous official told AFP: “They are expelled and the health minister has totally excluded WHO, accusing it of unacceptable interference in its management of the coronavirus.”

The country has recorded few cases and only one death, but testing is low. Candidates for next week’s election continue to hold mass rallies.
