Virgin Atlantic will cut 3,150 jobs and stop operating at Gatwick Airport as it tries to stay afloat during the coronavirus crisis, is has announced.
The company employs around 10,000 staff. It will move some of its Gatwick operations to Heathrow Airport.
It will continue to seek extra support from government, it said. Ministers have previously said they are willing to discuss “bespoke” support funding for airlines.
The news comes after both British Airways and Ryanair announced thousands of job cuts to cope with reduced demand during the pandemic.
