Social distancing will persist “for some time“, says Sturgeon

By Samuel Horti

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said social distancing will have to stay in place “for some time to come”.

At her daily press conference, Sturgeon said the Scottish government would set out a framework for lifting lockdown restrictions later this week, but that it would be too early to say exactly “what measures will be lifted and when”.

“It will also be clear in the work we set out later in the week that living with this virus, as we will need to learn to do, is likely to mean some restrictions on everyday life in the form of social distancing for some time to come.”

Sturgeon has previously said that Scotland will, if necessary, deviate from the rest of the UK when it comes to lifting restrictions. The UK’s current lockdown measures will last until at least 7 May, although Dominic Raab hinted last week that they persist into June, and experts have said some social distancing will need to be maintained long-term.
