How sick pay could help prevent deaths in care homes

Meagre levels of statutory sick pay (SSP), currently £95.85 per week, are forcing staff at care homes to choose between playing it safe and paying their bills, writes George Grylls, winner of the Anthony Howard Award 2019. It’s a problem “that is much easier for the government to solve than the supply issues [around personal protective equipment and coronavirus tests] dominating the headlines”, George argues.
