Watch: NS webinar on running the UK on renewable energy

Nicola Shaw, Alan Whitehead MP, Dale Vince, and Philippa Nuttall Jones on the role of renewable energy in achieving net zero.

By NS Events

The use of renewable energy in the UK is on the rise, but two-thirds of our electricity still comes from non-renewable sources. With the Prime Minister’s recent pledge to power all UK homes via offshore wind by 2030, is it possible for the UK to generate 100 per cent of its energy from renewable sources?

In November, thNew Statesman‘s Spotlight and Energy Monitor held ‘Net Zero Policy Week’. The week-long event brought together sector leaders, experts and policymakers to discuss what the challenges and opportunities are for the UK in meeting its net zero targets, through digital panels, live Q&As, and interviews.

An online panel discussion, chaired by Energy Monitor editor in chief Philippa Nuttall Jones, explored these key issues. The panel brought together executive director of the National Grid Nicola Shaw CBE, shadow minister for the green new deal and energy Alan Whitehead MP, and CEO of Ecotricity Dale Vince, to discuss whether the UK can run entirely on renewable energy.
