Labour’s post-conference bounce continues

Conservative lead cut to 11 per cent as Labour rises three points

By Staff Blogger

Labour has narrowed the Conservatives‘ lead to 11 points in a new poll that shows the party’s post-conference bounce continuing. The Sunday Times/YouGov poll put Labour up by three points to 30 per cent, with the Tories unchanged on 41 per cent and the Liberal Democrats unchanged on 17 per cent. Other parties were down three points to 12 per cent.

If repeated at a general election, the findings would give David Cameron’s party a Commons majority of 38.

The Tories continue to lead Labour on economic management although their lead has fallen from 10 to seven points.

Despite Labour’s rise in support much of the electorate remains deeply sceptical of Gordon Brown’s leadership. Voters believe that Labour would do better under an alternative leader by 35 per cent to 10 per cent.

A separate Independent on Sunday/ComRes poll this weekend showed the Conservatives maintaining a 12-point leader over Labour. All the parties were unchanged with the Tories on 40 per cent, Labour on 28 per cent and the Liberal Democrats on 19 per cent.
