Florida – Senate

Marco Rubio (R) v Charlie Crist (Ind) v Kendrick Meek (D)

By Rob Higson

Marco Rubio is a Republican former state house speaker with Tea Party backing, and currently leads the polls in a three-way race against Charlie Crist, the Florida governor who is running as an independent, and Kendrick Meek, Democrat congressman.

It’s one of the most interesting races of the midterms. The Democratic candidate is struggling, with the polls at 44/33/21 for Rubio, Crist and Meek, respectively.

Rubio, a child of Cuban exiles, lives in Miami and is married to Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, a former Miami Dolphins cheerleader of Colombian descent.

At 39, and fluent in Spanish, Rubio is seen as an exciting new face in the Republican Party.
