New Times,
New Thinking.

Who were the winners from Rishi Sunak’s 2021 Budget?

The Chancellor increased public spending in the hope that the economy will continue to bounce back from Covid and Brexit.

The 2021 Budget saw government departments receive increases in spending against what some see as the instincts of Boris Johnson’s Chancellor, Rishi Sunak.

Stephen Bush and Anoosh Chakelian are joined by special guest David Gauke, the former chief secretary to the Treasury and New Statesman contributing writer, to discuss the Chancellor’s 2021 Budget.

They talk about why the response to the Budget was muted on Conservative benches, where the Chancellor focused his spending pledges and why, and whether Labour’s response was adequate.

Then in You Ask Us, they answer a listener’s question on why Conservative MPs voted to allow the release of raw sewage into rivers and seas.
