Bradford’s Respect councillors resign from the party

All five councillors have left Respect in protest at the suspension of two of their number, following remarks they made about George Galloway running for Mayor of London.

By New Statesman

All five of Bradford’s Respect councillors have resigned from the party today.

The move follows the suspension of Ishtiaq Ahmed and Mohammad Shabbir, in the wake of remarks they made over George Galloway’s announcement that he was considering running for Mayor of London. Galloway is currently Bradford’s MP.

The councillors have asked that their colleagues be  “publicly exonerated and their suspensions revoked”, according to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.
