Alex Salmond to stand for UK parliament in 2015

The former first minister is expected to announce that he will stand for the Gordon seat held by retiring Lib Dem MP Sir Malcolm Bruce.

Alex Salmond is expected to announce that he will stand for the UK parliament at the 2015 election.

The former Scottish first minister, who resigned as leader of the SNP after defeat in the independence referendum, is reported to be targeting the Gordon seat currently held by Lib Dem Sir Malcolm Bruce.

Bruce, who has a majority of 6,748 over the SNP, will stand down at the next election after more than two decades in parliament. Salmond currently represents a similar area in the Scottish Parliament with his Aberdeenshire East seat.

Salmond is due to confirm the move at a constituency meeting on Sunday morning. He was previously an MP from 1987 to 2010, representing Banff and Buchan.
