Derby-based engineering firm Rolls-Royce plans to cut 9,000 jobs, with the majority of the losses expected in the UK.
The downturn in the aviation industry means the company needs to make £1.3bn annual cost savings, and staff cuts will account for about half of that, it said.
Around 8,000 of the 9,000 job cuts would be within the company’s civil aerospace business, two-thirds of which is based in the UK.
The company employs 52,000 staff globally, and 23,700 in the UK.
