The government met its target of carrying out 100,000 daily coronavirus tests before the end of April, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced at this afternoon’s Downing Street briefing.
On the last day of the month, 122,347 tests were carried out, he said, up from around 82,000 the day before.
However, a report from earlier today said the government had changed the way it counted tests in order to meet the target, including counting tests that hadn’t yet been carried out. No doubt Hancock will be asked about that report later in the press conference.
