MPs have been paid nearly £150,000 in the first half of this year for journalism work, the Press Gazette reports.
The highest-earner among MPs for journalism is the notorious sounder-offer George Galloway, who matched his MP’s annual salary (£67,000) in the first four months of this year with money made from journalism. He earns money from a rather petrifying trinity of television channels – the state-backed television station Russia Today, LBP TV (a channel broadcast out of the offices of former Iran-backed station Press TV), and Al-Mayadeen TV (allegedly funded by Iran and Syria, and which has been accused of being “pro-Syria”), among other organisations.
The Press Gazette quotes a spokesperson for Galloway: “He does believe in spreading his message as widely as he can – not just through the prism of parliament.”
Other high earners include Labour MPs Gisela Stuart (£13,200) and Austin Mitchell (£10,000) for work on parliament trade magazine House.
