The public want tasers and tear gas used on the rioters

And 33 per cent want them shot with live ammunition.

By George Eaton

While some MPs anguish over whether the police should be allowed to use rubber bullets and water cannon, it’s worth noting that the public wants an even fiercer response. Here are some findings from today’s YouGov poll on the riots:

– In common with Conservative MEP Roger Helmer, 33 per cent of the public believe the police should be allowed to shoot the rioters with live ammunition.

– 78 per cent support the use of tear gas.

– 72 per cent support the use of tasers.

– 82 per cent want curfews imposed.

– 90 per cent support the use of water cannon.
