The former environment minister Elliot Morley has been jailed for 16 months for his role in the Westminster expenses scandal. Morley last month pleaded guilty to claiming more than £30,000 in fraudulent mortgage payments.
Morley becomes the third Labour MP to be jailed, after David Chaytor and Jim Devine were sentenced to 18 and 16 months in jail respectively.
The former Conservative peer John Taylor was also convicted in January this year of fraudulently claiming expenses and will shortly be sentenced. Slowly, but surely, this sorry episode is drawing to a conclusion.
