Last thought on “Fergie”

Is she fair game?

By James Macintyre

Several friends, and readers such as they are, have been annoyed with me for attempting to stick up for Sarah Ferguson earlier. However, I just want to add this thought: given that she is, as the Windsors are doubtless keen to point out, “no longer a member of the royal family”, what does she owe the UK?

Fergie has, after all, been praised for her charity work and is now seeking a role of her own. She has been the victim of a cunning and pre-planned stink in which a reporter lied repeatedly. Is it not time to think about the ethics of that?
