The political philosopher G.A. Cohen died this morning after suffering a stroke. Much of his work was devoted to a moral justification of the idea of equality – notably in the imperishable, and wonderfully titled, If You’re An Egalitarian, How Come You’re So Rich?
What turns out to have been his last book, Why Not Socialism?, will be published next month by Princeton University Press. As it happens, Jerry Cohen had been in discussions with the New Statesman just last week about our taking an extract from it. He will be much missed.
More reaction here, here and here.
